GARY M. VANEK graduated in 1977 from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and received his law degree in 1980 from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois in the same year. He is also licensed to practice before the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, the United States Seventh Circuit of Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
For over 25 years, Mr. Vanek has concentrated his practice in general and commercial law, including civil litigation, commercial, banking, real estate, chancery and construction litigation. In addition, Mr. Vanek has represented local municipalities as general and special counsel. He also serves as general counsel for several area corporations.
During his legal career, Mr. Vanek has served in several professional capacities. For over 10 years, he served in various capacities with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, most recently serving as Chair of a panel of the ARDC Hearing Board. He served as President of the Kane County Bar Association in 1997-1998 and has served two terms as a member of the Illinois State Bar Association Assembly. He currently serves on the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Professional Responsibility.
Mr. Vanek served as a Director of Harris Bank Huntley from 1992 until 2006, serving as Chairman of the Board of the Bank for several years. He also served as Co-Chairman of the Advisory Board of Directors for the Northwest Region of the Bank. He is a former Trustee of Da Vinci Academy, a local school for gifted children. He served as a Founding Director of the Kane County Bar Foundation and serves in its "Lawyers in the Classroom" program. He is a past Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin, the George M. Eisenberg unit of the Chicago Boys' Club, Elgin Citizens Against Crime and the Phi Delta Theta Chapter House Corporation, University of Illinois.
He and his wife, Marsha are members of Christ Community Church, St. Charles, Illinois, and reside in South Elgin.
